Corrosion Analysis of Seawater Ballast Tank Structures

Abstract:
In this paper, a measured data set of corrosion for seawater ballast tank structures of bulk carriers and oil tankers is collected, and their corrosion characteristics are quantified by the statistical analysis in terms of ship age. Mathematical models for predicting time-variant corrosion wastage of the corresponding structures are suggested. Relevant values of corrosion margin are also proposed. The results and insights developed from the present study will be useful for predicting the depth of corrosion wastage of seawater ballast tank structures. They will also be useful for designing corrosion tolerant structures subjected to the seawater environment.
