Practical techniques for finite element modelling to simulate structural crashworthiness in ship collisions and grounding (Part II: Verification)
Author(s): Paik, Jeom Kee
Abstract:
This article is a sequel of the same author's article, which presents theoretical description of practical finite element (FE) modelling techniques to accurately and efficiently simulate structural crashworthiness in ship collisions and grounding. In the present article, some application examples on test structural models are shown by a comparison with the experimental results and the corresponding FE simulations to confirm the validity of the proposed methods. The existing test results on collision and grounding of double-skinned structures are employed to examine the collision and grounding behaviour.
